About roman glass shards. Archaeological digs along the ancient Silk Road in Afghanistan unearthed many broken roman glass vessels dating approximately 1st century B.C to 3rd century AD. These shards are used to create beautiful, multi-colored beads. The glass, therefore, is ancient, but the beads were made of this glass in modern times. Some of the ancient glass have age-appropriate mineral deposits, which are preserved in many of the beads.
